March 2020: Is too much great still too much? The practice of creating space.

The most crucial task is to forge more life into your day.  This does not mean more to-dos, it means less.   It means creating space, to think, walk, eat, sleep, read, love, and dream.- Brendan Burchard

The beginning of the year brought SO many amazing things my way.  In fact, I've been on a huge professional growth spurt for the past 6 months with no slow-down in sight.  The problem is that I've become so accustomed to saying 'yes' to just about anything that comes my way that lately I've found myself  feeling totally inundated.  It's all great stuff but I've started to feel the pressure that too much 'great' is still just too much.

So, what to do?  Make space. I'm a yoga teacher, I know that much.  Literally know when to draw the line and say 'no' even when you might want to help or take something on.  I've been looking at this conundrum like a big bubble filled with smaller bubbles.  If the big bubble is jam packed with wonderful little bubbles, there's no way around it, it's still jam packed.  By taking some of the albeit wonderful little bubbles out, the ones left get so much more of your energy, thought, time, and intention.

Some of my best thinking is done after I've practiced yoga, a shower, or meditation. Why?  Because I've given my to-do list a breather and I can see myself and my reactions to those tasks more clearly.  I can better identify how each of those to-dos makes me feel and how they impact the bigger picture of a happy work/life balance.  It's a bit of a catch 22.  You have to have created some space in order to continue creating space.

So.  Find something that connects you, grounds you, creates space for YOU.  Let whatever comes up during that time rise to your awareness and then roll with it. Instead of listening to the ever present ego, allow your intuition to guide your decisions.  I'm not saying that every little thing in your day must be heart filled and meaningful, but ensure you have enough bandwidth to give that generous heart energy to the things that actually do require and deserve it.

May your bubble be filled with wonderful to-dos, but with a ton of extra space so that you can do you, just better.

With time, space, and love,

Laura
